BACKGROUND

Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute (RGNGWTRI) was established in 1997 as India's first exclusive Training Institute in Groundwater studies & it continues to be the one and only domain specific training institute in the realm of ground water Science in India. RGNGWTRI is the functional training wing of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the aegis of Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti , Govt. of India. RGNGWTRI is envisaged to function as a `Centre of Excellence’ with the national role of conducting specialized training courses in groundwater science for all ground water professionals of CGWB, other Central and State Government Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, Non-Governmental Organizations and the Academic institutions and all stake holders through three arms -Tier I, Tier II and Tier III trainings

LOCATION

Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute (RGNGWTRI) is located in the planned city- Atal Nagar, at Sector 23, , Naya Raipur, 22 Km from Capital of Chhattisgarh State on NH-33. Raipur has a tropical wet and dry climate with temperature remaining moderate throughout the year, except from March to June. The city receives about 1,300 mm of rainfall mostly in the monsoon season from late June to early October. Mild Winter lasts from November to January. Raipur is well connected with other major cities/parts of India and abroad through air and rail.

MANDATE & MISSION

RGNGWTRI’s mandate is to conduct training courses for ground water professionals of CGWB at the induction, mid-career, senior management levels and other in-service training for skill upgradation. The training courses are designed for all the relevant aspects of investigations, exploration, assessment, development, management and regulation of ground water resources; In addition to domain specific subjects, training courses are also being imparted on behavioral and functional aspects. To improve the capacity building in groundwater science for sustainable groundwater development & management with participatory approach, Institute has embarked upon a three-tier training system which can create a pool of trained resource persons who would be working towards sustainability of ground water resources across the country with community participation , even at grass root level also. RGNGWTRI has also expanded to new vistas of research activities in emerging areas of ground water science in collaboration with premier institutes.
